Sparking the Maker Mindset

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Here is the link to the presentation - http://steam.lesley.edu/edtech-teacher-innovation-summit-sparking-the-maker-mindset/

This is the story of a spark that started with a parent talking about robotics; then skipped to a principal reaching out to his faculty inspiring conversations about new ways of knowing; then jumped to a teacher sharing her excitement about bringing STEAM activities to life for her students; and from there, the spark ignited as students burst into their newly formed Makerspace and did what children do best - engaging in play, tinkering, and exploring the boundaries of learning.

This interactive workshop is structured for participants to experience a constellation of different maker activities from using BeeBots to TinkerCAD to Stop Motion Animation and Green Screen. Each of these activities was designed through a partnership between Lesley University and the Kennedy School to recruit engagement, build capacity, and begin the process of scaling the maker mindset in an urban K - 8 public school setting.

So, come and be part of our story! Join the team from Lesley University and the Kennedy School for this hands-on exploration of the maker activities that united students, educators, and community members in the creation of the school’s first Makerspace, and the district’s first experience with the maker mindset.
