We Are Makers: Educating the Next Generation of Innovators

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

The We Are Makers workshop will lead participants in hands-on activities that utilize the design process to engage the next generation of Makers. We will explore different ways to make thinking visible, whether for ideation or iteration and solution in any level classroom.          Participants will work together on challenges and document their process. Each will walk away with a toolbox of Maker and design education techniques and examples for inspiring their students and themselves as they work through the steps of innovation while tapping creativity.
The session will begin with an introduction to Maker Education with examples shared. Participants will engage in collaborative Making with a group and will document their steps along the way. They will then share their results and thoughts about the process and the session work.
A resource list will be provided, including various Maker Spaces publications, my Sketchnotes from my own experiences in the "Thinking and Learning in the Maker Centered Classroom" and "Making Thinking Visible" courses (Harvard Graduate School of Education), and "Creating Innovators Design Thinking & Maker Spaces" workshop (EdTechTeacher), as well as my own experiences teaching in a Maker centered classroom.

TABLES ARE FOR THE FIRST 50 PEOPLE WHO SIGNED UP. NAMES ARE LISTED OUTSIDE THE ROOM. OTHERS MAY SIT IN THE CHAIRS IN THE BACK.

Participants will use collaborative sites like Padlet, Poll Everywhere, Google docs, Google keep, etc to share and collaborate. If you don't already have these apps, please download prior to the session.
